Winsor & Newton Watercolour Mediums 75ml are designed to modify the behaviour, appearance, and texture of watercolour. Add them to your paint or apply them to the paper to create different effects, from smoother blending and granulation to added texture, shimmer, or easier lifting.
Gum Arabic – Slows drying, increases transparency and gloss, and gives you more time to blend colours. Also useful for making your own watercolour paint.
Ox Gall Liquid – Improves the flow of watercolour by reducing surface tension, helping create smoother, more even washes.
Blending Medium – Extends drying time so colours can be blended more smoothly and gradually.
Granulation Medium – Increases or enhances granulation, creating a natural mottled or textured appearance in your washes.
Texture Medium – Adds fine particles to the paint or paper, creating a rough, textured surface and greater visual depth.
Iridescent Medium – Adds a subtle pearlescent, shimmering effect to watercolour. Particularly effective with transparent colours and over dark backgrounds.
Lifting Preparation – Applied to paper before painting to make watercolour easier to lift later with a wet brush or cloth. Useful for corrections and lifting techniques.
Aquapasto – A translucent gel that thickens watercolour or gouache, allowing you to create raised, more painterly and impasto-like effects.
Permanent Masking Medium – Creates a permanent water-repellent area on the paper, preventing watercolour from adhering and preserving the paper underneath.
Colourless Art Masking Fluid – Temporarily masks areas of the paper so they remain unpainted. Ideal for fine details and preserving highlights; remove once dry and before finishing the painting.
